OUR JOURNEY

Lakeside Family Services (Lakeside) is proud to run 5 service centres (including two Family Service Centres) and two student care centres in Jurong East, Jurong West and Taman Jurong. We provide casework and counselling, financial assistance, information and referral services targeting family needs for people of all ages, regardless of race, language or religion.

In 2017, Lakeside journeyed with over 1,200 families and other individuals through our highly subsidised and quality services.

Lakeside was started in 1993 by Faith Methodist Church to share God’s love by serving the community. At that time, Jurong was an industrial town with an estimated 33,000 households and only minimal services to help those in need.

Thus, Lakeside Family Centre was started, named after what was then the last station on the East-West Line. The proximity of the train station made it easy for beneficiaries to remember this Family Centre and where it could be found.

The team, comprising of  volunteers and staff, worked tirelessly to make Lakeside Family Centre the place where the community’s social, economic and educational needs could be met. The church also started the Jurong Preaching Point, which grew into Agape Methodist Church. Since 2006, Agape Methodist Church has been the sponsoring church for Lakeside.

Operating as Lakeside Family Centre since 1993, we changed our name to “Lakeside Family Services” in 2013, after 20 years of serving the community in Jurong, to better reflect our holistic and integrated services for families that are provided through our various centres.

In recent years, we have been reaching out to families affected by incarceration and problem gambling at our Taman Jurong Centre. This year, we will start a new centre for children and youths, a new centre for seniors, and a residential facility for women facing unsupported pregnancies.

We maintain our commitment to expand and develop services that are needed for the last, the least and the lost in society, thereby fulfilling our Christian responsibility to serve with the vision of “Changing Lives, Transforming Communities”.
