4WARD TOGETHER 4 MILLION STEPS

Lakeside Family Services launched its first A MILLION STEPS fundraising campaign in 2020, targeting to reach 1 million steps together to raise funds for our programmes serving (ex-)inmates and their families.

This year, we hope to continue supporting them in their journey to reintegration. Together with all our staff, volunteers and friends of Lakeside, we are committed to pledge 1000 steps for each of the 4000 (ex) inmates we work with. In the spirit of going the distance together, our campaign this year is titled

4WARD TOGETHER 4 MILLION STEPS.

CROSS ISLAND WALK

I started my social work career in 1992 at Lakeside Family Services, reaching out to disadvantaged children, youths and families.

Last year, Friends of Lakeside and myself went on a 38km Cross-Island Walk from Lakeside to Changi Prison as a sign of our commitment to walk the long journey of recovery and reintegration with prisoners and their families. This year, a group of us will do the cross-island walk again in support for the incarcerated whom we work with. Please come join us in giving hope and healing to others by taking part in this campaign. Thank you in advance for your kind support!”

Case Management

Lakeside provides a wide range of services, including:

  • The Family Resource Centre, a one-stop centre for prisoners and their families, which is based at Changi Prison Link Centre.
  • Case Management Support for those who are on the Work Release Scheme, as well as life skills workshops through our Release Preparation Programme.
  • Televisit services for families to visit their loved ones in prison through our teleconferencing facility, as well as holistic programmes for financial assistance, family bonding, and casework support after they are released.

While some of these programmes are funded by Singapore Prisons Services, other value-added services still require fundraising support to provide for the needs of ex-inmates and their families.

We work with about 4000 (ex-)inmates and their families yearly, and this year we are committed to pledging 1000 steps for every inmate we work with. Together with all our staff, volunteers and friends of Lakeside, we hope to walk 4 Million Steps and raise $300,000.

4 million steps for the 4000 (ex-)inmates and their families we work with.

The participant with the most number of steps clocked will walk away with attractive prizes! (More details to be announced on social media.)

STORIES

As a teenager, Kat (not her real name) lived a fun and carefree life. Having a supportive family, she thought that she had it all. She was then introduced to drugs, and have been in and out of prisons nine times since.

Today, through Lakeside Family Services, Kat is on a better path, leading a stable life, performing well at work and adjusting to be a good wife.

Learn more about Kat’s story, as well as many others like her, and help us remove the walls of stigma and prejudice.
